Benwell and Scotswood is an area of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
It includes the Benwell and Scotswood housing areas, as well as the Business Park which is located on the banks of the River Tyne. The Business Park hosts the offices of companies such as British Airways and The Automobile Association.
Over 5.3% of the overall population of Newcastle live in the Benwell and Scotswood area which is around 13,000 people.
The Scotswood area grew during the industrial revolution as Vickers Armstrong military engineering group expanded.
The Scotswood Bridge was built in 1831 and was the first bridge to be built over the River Tyne in the industrial era.
